Creating Dimension with The Crafter's Workshop Stencils

Hi there,

I am sharing a canvas with lovely layers and great dimension created for The Crafter's Workshop.

Adding dimension to your layouts can be simple and fun. I had this cute photo of my girls when they were enjoying a day in the pool some years ago. I thought that this pic would work perfectly for a 12 X 12 Canvas with layers, texture, and dimension.

Using stencils and molding paste really adds great texture and appeal to your projects and did so for this canvas as well.

I began the process by applying gesso to my canvas and letting it dry. I then created some fun drippage with various Art Anthology inks and water.

Next I laid my 12 X 12 Sketch Grid stencil (TCW456) on top of my canvas, and applied a layer of molding paste. Tip: Molding paste provides great depth, dimension, and texture. After applying molding paste and scraping away the excess, immediately slip stencil into water or clean with baby wipes before the modeling paste dries on your stencil.

After allowing the molding paste to dry, I applied vintage photo ink to the canvas with a foam tool. Applying the vintage photo ink lightly onto the molding paste was key to creating a complimentary background for the photo and embellishments.

I love how this canvas turned out. The use of the Sketch Grid stencil really helped maintain balance. It provided the level of texture and dimension that was needed to enhance the overall design of the canvas.

Quick Quotes & Xyron Blog Hop- Travel Album

Hi there,

Xyron has teamed up with Quick Quotes for a fun and creative blog hop. The Xyron Design Team will be sharing creative projects all week, here.

Travel albums are always a neat way to capture and share the most memorable moments of your trip. I created this travel album using the "Baggage Claim" patterned papers by Quick Quotes. I also used my Xyron 9" Creative Station, Teresa Collins Clear Hold Adhesive, and 1.5" Sticker Maker to adhere my Travel Album together.

I love how this album turned out. I was trying to achieve a waterfall effect with chunky possibilities. The album was constructed with chipboard and measures 6 x 10. It has paper bag inserts for pocket options, which also provides great chunk.

One of the best additions to the album was this redesigned pendent.  I removed the original image from the pendant and added a cut out of a stamp from the Quick Quotes patterned paper.  I ran the stamp through my Xyron 1.5" Sticker Maker and adhered it to the base.

I then added a layer of Teresa Collins Clear Hold Adhesive to the stamp inside of the base. This provided a more customized and coordinated embellishment for the album.  I also added some coordinated ribbon to the pendant and used the ribbon throughout the album. More pages of the album are below.

I hope to fill this album with fun photos after my next vacation.

"Be Classic" Layout

Hi there,

I hope that you are enjoying this Memorial Day weekend.  I sure am.  I wanted to share this little layout that I created using some DCWV product that I received. I love how the corrugated board and the cork board complimented each other.  They screamed, "Scrap me. " So I did.  I used one of the pics from my girls last recital. While working with the products I just felt that a vintage feel was the best approach for this layout, so I used a sepia photo to continue the vintage elements. I used my 9" Xyron Creative Station to adhere my layout together. Loved the end result.  I hope that you do too..:)

Paper House & Xyron Blog Hop

Hi there,

Xyron and Paper House has teamed up for a creative blog hop. We will be hopping all week long, so look forward to the creative shares on the Xyron blog, here

It’s no secret- I enjoy creating mini books and journals. I received some really nice beach theme papers and embellishments from Paper House.  I loved how rich in color the patterns were.  I also enjoyed the medium weight of the paper.  Since the products were beach themed, a journal/mini album with canvas paper filler immediately came to mind.  What I love most about this type of project, is that you can customize your album as you desire.  You can add mixed media pages, watercolor pages, canvas papers, or combo of them-It’s completely up to you. Creating a beach journal with mini book elements is a super fun way take creative fun to the beach.  My tutorial is shown below…

Patterned Paper
(2) Corrugated Board (7 X 7)
Stickers
Vintage Photo Ink
Foam Tool

Step 1: Trim patterned paper down to size of the corrugated board and apply vintage photo ink to edges of patterned paper.

Step 2: Insert patterned paper into 9” Creative Station. Rub edges and then remove film.

Step 3: Adhere patterned paper to corrugated board.

Step 4: Punch holes in book components using binding tool and bind book.

Step 5: Apply vintage photo ink to themed stickers and add them to book. Tip:  Build layers until happy with design. Cut some stickers in  half to achieve the look that you desire.

Chic DCWV Cards using Xyron

Hi there,

I received a lovely box of goodies from Xyron and partnering companies recently. One of the partnering companies was Die Cuts With a View (DCWV). Love them! I love that their papers are available in coordinated stacks and that the paper is thick in weight and perfect for cardmaking.

I created 2 cards using DCWV (Neon Chic Stack). I used the 9" Creative Station and Teresa Collins Clear Hold adhesive on both cards. I also used my grand spellbinders die to create the bases. I love how the papers coordinate and compliment each other. The embellishments enhanced the overall design. I love how these turned out...:)

It's National Scrapbooking Day!!!

Hi there,

Well today is National Scrapbooking Day...How cool is that? I decided to pull out some of my most loved layouts to share. The photos in them really brought back fond moments. I love that scrapbooking gives me an opportunity to preserve such sweet memories in such a creative way....

In the following layout, I used several fun products. The corrugated board was distressed and it really added some great texture. When I created this layout the lucky 8 punches were just introduced to the scrapbooking world and I had to have them.  The use of them were a great addition to the layout .  That decorative scalloped edge was perfect.

Love by Karen Jiles Supplies Cardstock: Bazzill, Close to my Heart; Patterned Paper, 3D Stickers, Punch: We R Memory Keepers; Corrugated Board: Zutter; Twine: The Twinery; Ink: Ranger; Paint: Close to my Heart; Adhesive: Xyron; Other: Ribbon
In the following layout, I used crocheted ribbon as a layer to add softness to the layout. I chose to add pinwheels to maintain a playful feel to the layout. I created a pocket along the base to add tags and to tuck the layered photo in. All layers were distressed with the use of Prima's distressing tool and Ranger's vintage photo ink. The layers were adhered using Xyron.
